If an infection enters from decay cavity to the pulp located in the root canal, the canal treatment is unavoidable in the majority of cases. The only alternative to such treatment is extraction of the tooth. We put every effort to save the tooth that may seem hopeless at first sight. Therefore, the root canal treatment is of crucial importance.
The canal treatment covers a range of complicated procedures:
- the affected location of the tooth is identified, anaesthetised and a tooth X-ray is taken;
- the tooth is isolated from saliva;
- the pulp chamber is opened;
- the infected pulp is removed;
- the length of the canal is determined;
- the canal is cleaned and widened up to the dental root apex by dental files;
- medication may be introduced into the canal (calcium hydroxide paste or other);
- the entire canal is sealed with filling material (paste, gutta-percha posts);
- the dental crown defect is filled.
